They were written to the people back home, or to a brother in Virginia, a cousin in Cincinnati or to a fellow militia-man in Mississippi, who had yet to come to New Orleans. Those who received the letters would let their home town newspaper copy them; if the letters were especially interesting, they would be reprinted by other newspapers who received the original newspaper as an exchange paper. The most interesting letters might thus appear in up to fifteen or twenty newspapers, in as many states. As each letter writer was an individual, so each letter has its own personality.

Author: Mary Weatherspoon Bowden,Bowden
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
Published: 11/05/2014
Pages: 350
Binding Type: Paperback
Weight: 1.03lbs
Size: 9.02h x 5.98w x 0.73d
ISBN: 9781500495473

About the Author
Mary W. Bowden has published three books previously, dealing with early American authors Philip Freneau and Washington Irving. She currently posts a blog for the Headliners Foundation of Texas which carries the news items from newspapers published 200 years ago in the United States. While working on this, she noticed the large numbers of letters printed that gave details of the authors' experiences at New Orleans preparing for, fighting, and finishing up the Battle of New Orleans. Thinking that others might enjoy these personal observations of a major American battle, she decided to present them in book form.

This title is not returnable

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1022/4553/1946/files/img_e6f67510-b1b8-4bde-998b-643e3578ecf7.jpg?v=1793052279
https://delvanta.shop/products/private-letters-from-before-during-and-after-the-battle-of-new-orleans-as-printed-in-the-newspapers-of-the-time
