About the Author
Toby Nayr is an author originally from western New York. After nearly drinking and smoking myself to death, I sobered up. It took a lot of training to get sober and then you never are far from the edge. It was this training that taught me how expand myself and be creative. I had always thought about writing a book. When I stopped going to the bar every evening, I began having all this free time. My training was telling me that I needed to create new habits, to replace the old ones I wanted to give up. I later discovered some websites about writing books and then took some courses and lectures. After pondering many ideas about what my book should be about, the idea for Homegrown came to me. In fact, it got handed to me on a silver platter from the last place I would have ever expected it from. Life can be ironic. I laughed for weeks about the surreal idea. Once I started writing, I tried to talk myself out of finishing it several times. But the chapters kept materializing. This book is based upon growing knowledge shared with me by three important people. The first is my Grandfather who taught me gardening skills at a young age. He took me to the local farmers markets so I could sell my excess produce. I still grow an annual vegetable garden some 45 years later. The second is my friend Ty. Ty is a long time pot grower and I have known him for many years. He grows outdoors in summer and indoors during winter. He knows plants, equipment, techniques, seeds, soil and I think he probably knows everything. My connection to gardening is what I found fascinating about Ty's basement garden. I also was fond of his generosity to share. Although I don't live near Ty anymore, we had a lot of fun discussing the details that went into this book. The third is my deceased brother Allen. He lived on the West Coast where attitudes and laws were a little more relaxed. He used to grow in his backyard and believed that his smoke helped keep him alive during his long battle with HIV. I used to share Ty's tips with him, which allowed his crops to flourish. So, I know there are many folks who can benefit from the use of medical marijuana. This book is especially for you. With decriminalization in full swing, a new American industry is being born. Investors, bankers and executives are lining up to make big profits. Fortunately, you don't have to contribute to their wealth plans because you now know how to grow - homegrown. This is my gift to you!
