The True Doctrine Of Justification, Asserted And Vindicated From The Errors Of Papists, Arminians, Socinians And More Especially Antinomians (1655)

The True Doctrine of Justification by Anthony Burgess is a theological treatise that defends the Protestant doctrine of justification by faith alone against several opposing views, including those of the Roman Catholic Church, Arminians, Socinians, and Antinomians. Burgess argues that justification is a legal declaration of righteousness by God, which is received by faith alone and not by any human effort or merit. He refutes the Catholic belief in the necessity of good works for salvation and the Arminian view that faith is a work that earns salvation. He also challenges the Socinian denial of the imputed righteousness of Christ and the Antinomian rejection of the moral law as a guide for Christian living. The book is divided into several parts, each addressing a different aspect of justification. Burgess draws extensively from Scripture and the writings of Protestant theologians such as Martin Luther and John Calvin to support his arguments. He also engages with the arguments of his opponents and provides detailed rebuttals.Overall, The True Doctrine of Justification is a thorough and rigorous defense of the Protestant understanding of justification by faith alone, and a valuable resource for those interested in the history of Protestant theology. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
