The Wartime Memoirs of Robert E Lee

Finally after 150 years... The Wartime Memoirs of General Robert E. LeeFor the five years from the end of the Civil War until his death in 1870, Robert E. Lee's contemporaries urged him to write his memoirs. He responded by gathering information from his officers and men, and even from his former enemies. But, sadly, he never lived long enough to actually write them. Now after a century and a half, Edward Aronoff has assembled these notes and letters gathered by him and other historians, and channeled it into his latest work, The Wartime Memoirs of General Robert E. Lee. With the first hand detail that only Lee himself could produce, and the compassion of a Confederate soldier, Dr. Aronoff carefully constructs the General's thoughts and emotions from the start of hostilities to his fateful surrender at Appomattox. The resulting book is an insightful, and sometimes painful look, at the man who led a rebellion.
